In Porsche Motorsport's pursuit of engineering excellence, camber shims are not uniform. Different thicknesses employ carefully selected materials to optimise strength, durability, and weight — a deliberate strategy proven in the 992 GT3 Cup and GT3 R race cars.
Why Materials Differ by Thickness?
Thinner Shims (<2 mm)
These require maximum rigidity for precise, small camber adjustments (~0.1° per shim). Porsche specifies high-strength stainless steel (X5CrNi18-10) to deliver superior stiffness with minimal added mass. This prevents deformation, maintains laser-accurate alignment, and preserves the GT3 RS’s sharp handling response.
Thicker Shims ( >2 mm)
Designed for larger camber changes (~0.3–0.5° per shim) and higher compressive loads, these use aerospace-grade aluminium alloy (AlZn4.5Mg1). Precision laser-cut the aluminium significantly reduces weight and rotational inertia while maintaining structural integrity under extreme track conditions.

Lower Control Arm Camber Shims are the official mechanism designed by Porsche Motorsport to adjust camber settings on GT/RS models. When the 992 GT3 leaves the factory, it already includes some camber shims or mount plate to support a more aggressive driving style.
